Study of the reaction conditions mediated synthesis of 4-thiazolidinone derivatives by one-pot three-component reaction
Abstract:
4-Thiazolidinone, a class of heterocyclic compounds, is a biologically important
scaffold that exhibits diverse biological activities. Some of the well-known biological
responses attributed to these compounds are anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anticonvulsant,
antifungal, and antibacterial. Due to their potential as a new class of drugs, 4-thiazolidinones
have attracted considerable attention from various research groups to explore the potential
synthetic modification and design more new derivatives to study their activities. In this work,
we will report the study of three synthetic strategies that have been employed to synthesize
the targeted 4-thiazolidinone derivatives. Those methods are 1. DCC (N, N-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide)
catalyzed,7 2. silica gel promoted8 one-pot three-component reaction of amine,
carbonyl compound, and mercaptoacetic acid. The results from each strategy will be
discussed. These experiments would allow us to design the most effective method to
synthesize a library of 4-thiazolidinone derivatives for further biological activity screening
