Abstract:
This independent study aims to examine work motivation among employees of Boonthavorn Retail Corporation Public Company Limited in Bangkok and its vicinity, and to compare work motivation across demographic factors using Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory framework. The study sample comprised 325 employees from Boonthavorn Retail Corporation Public Company Limited in Bangkok and surrounding areas, selected through convenience sampling. Data collection was conducted via Google Forms questionnaire consisting of three sections: general demographic information, work motivation assessment, and additional suggestions and comments. Data analysis employed descriptive statistics, means, t-tests, and cross-tabulation analysis to examine differences across demographic variables. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents were female, belonging to Generation Y (born 1981-2000), single, holding bachelor's degrees, earning monthly incomes between 15,001-25,000 baht, and having over 10 years of work experience with the company. Most participants worked in retail business operations as officers/staff members. Regarding work motivation, both motivation factors and hygiene factors significantly influenced employee motivation at high levels, with overall work motivation rated at a high level. Hygiene factors demonstrated higher mean scores than motivation factors. The factor with the highest influence on motivation was achievement in work, followed by supervision from supervisors and working conditions, while growth showed the lowest influence on motivation. When comparing motivation across age groups, Generation X and Generation Y showed no statistically significant differences in overall work motivation levels. However, job security significantly influenced motivation more among Generation X than Generation Y. Cross-tabulation analysis revealed that Generation Y with widowed/divorced status, Generation Y with income of 45,000 baht and above, and Generation X with 4-6 years of work experience were the groups with the highest levels of work motivation influence in their respective dimensions.
