Abstract:
the purpose of the study was to develop a supplementary reading on AIDS for prathom Suksa5, to evaluate the supplementary reading on AIDS for Prathom Suksa 5 by experts, to compare the lerning achievement of the Prathom Suksa 5 students before and after reading as well as to compare the learning achievement of the students in the experimental group who read the supplementary reading and those in the control group who did not read the book. A set of learning achievement test of 30 multiple choice with 4 altermatives, created by the researcher was used for the evalution of their academic achievement. The reliability of the test was 0.83. The sample of the study, derived by means of purposive sampling, consisted of 30 Prathom Suksa 5 students studying in the firs semester of the academic year 1992 at Wat Mai Gatengam School, Amphoe Muang, Chon buri. The control group, deived by means of cluster random Sampling, consisted of 30 Prathom Suksa 5 students of Wat Klngdon School, Amphoe Muang, Chon Buri. The experiment of nonrandomized control goup pretest and posttest design was utilized. The t-test and Z-test were used for the dta analysis. Before the experiment, both the experimental and control groups were pretested in orde to compare their backgroud knowledge about AIDS. No significant diference was found. Then , the experimental group was assigned to read the supplementary reading on AIDS. It took 4 days, and hou a day. After that, both the experimental and control goups were posttested. The results showed tha the learning achievement of the students in the experimental group after reading the supplementary reading on AIDS was significntly higher than the learning achievement of the students beforde reading at the statistical level of .01. And the learning achieement in the experimental grup who read the supplementary reading on AIDS was significantly higher than the learning achievement of the students in the control group who did not read the book at the statistical level of .01.
