The relationship between motivation prevention and preventive behavior against severe injury from motorcycle accidents of vocational students in public educational institutions in muang district, Nakhon Pathom province
Abstract:
Motorcycles are a popular vehicle used by Thai people to travel. Each year, there are many motorcycle accidents. When a motorcycle is driving an accident, drivers and overlapping are often severely injured. Because the head is hit with a solid or sharp object. The use of helmets can prevent violence in one level, but people, especially teenagers or students are not popular use. It must find ways to promote them use always a safety helmet during driving or overlapping a motorcycle. Therefore, this study was to investigate the relationship between protection motivation concepts and behavior toward motorcycle accident victims of vocational students. The sample consisted of 242 students randomly selected from the public schools in Muang District, Nakhon Pathom province.
Data were collected by submitting a questionnaire to the classroom, by March 2017and analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation and Pearson's correlation.
The results showed that students of male and female students amount close (51.2% and 48.8%), average age of 17.50 ± 1.59 years old. The students used the motorcycle every day were 45.9 percent. There were overall prevention motivation at the 82.8 percent of average score; perceived severity in the most, follow by response efficacy, vulnerability and self-efficacy in the least, at the 86.6, 86.5, 85.1 and 72.9 percent of average score respectively. The students had overall protective behavior at the 76.5 percent of average score; practice in traffic sign in the most, followed by not drinking alcohol before driving, motorcycle check, wear a helmet and not drive fast at the 84.1, 80.5, 78.2, 74.2 and 65.4 percent of average score respectively. Overall protection motivation; severity, vulnerability, response efficacy and self-efficacy and preventive behavior of students was positive correlated, given correlation coefficients 0.234, 0.141, 0.161, 0.259 and 0.276 respectively. So, it should be promoted motivation for prevent the accidents and severe injury in vocational students.
