Abstract:
The purposes of this study were to investigate the Educational Productivity of Industrial Technical Colleges under the Department of Vocational Education in Bangkok Metropolis : Patumwan Technical Institute, Dusit Techincal College, Meanburi Technical College, Rajsittaram Technical College and Donmuang Technical College. The educational Productivity was to considered on the direct social cost per student per year, the retention ratio, the teachers qualification ratio, the student teacher ratio, the educational efficiency ratio, the educational wastage ratio, the proportion of graduates and the total expenditure that Industrial Technical Colleges had wasted on the repeaters and drop outs. The null hypotheses were tested by means of the confidence interval of mean, Chi-square test and z-test. The results were : 1. The direct social cost per student per year was 9,639.29 baht which were 7,373.55 baht for the recurrent cost and 2,265.74 baht for the capital cost 2. During academic year 1976-1980, The teachers qualification ratio of Industrial Technical Colleges Bachelors degree or higher to lower than Bachelors degree were 4.6 : 6.4, 5.2 :4.8, 5.5 :4.5, 5.7 :4.3 and 6.0 : 4.0 respectively which were not statistically significant from the standard Criterion (The teachers qualification ratio was 5:5) 3. During academic year 1976-1980, the student-teacher ratio of Industrial Technical Colleges were 1:16, 1:6, 1:17, 1:16 and 1:14 respectively which were better than the standard criterion (the student-teacher ratio was 1:25) 4.Industrial Technical Colleges had wastage of both repetition and drop out. To consider each individual Technical College, Donmuang Technical College had only the drop out wastage but the others had the educational wastage of both aspect. However, the wastage of repetition had a tendency to decrease but the wastage of drop out had a tendency to increase. The total expenditure that Industrial Technical Colleges had wasted on the repeaters and the drop outs of six cohorts (1972-1977) was 40,275,078.31 baht. 5. The proportion of graduates of Patumwan Technical Institute in five fields of studies (Auto Mechanirs, Electricity, Machine shop, Radio and Telecommunication, Welding and Sheet metal) were 0.8934, 0.9330, 0.9093, 0.8546 and 0.8655 respectively which were significantly higher than that of Rajsttaram Technical College and Meanburi Technical College. The proportion of graduates of Donmuang Technical College and Rajsittaram Technical College in the field of Building Construction were 0.7978 and 0.8050 respectively which were significantly higher than that of Dusit Technical College and Meanburi Technical College.
