Abstract:
There are two objectives of this thematic paper; to study the content and teachings found in Attadīpasutta and analyzing Vipassana practice Attadīpasutta. It is a documentary study by survey required information from Theravada Buddhist scriptures, namely Tripitaka, its commentaries, and sub-commentaries, as well as other relevant documents, then taking to be analyzed and compiled descriptive lecture checked their accuracy by expert teachers. The study found that;
Attadīpasutta is a discourse collected in verse in Sanyutta Nikaya by First Buddhist Council. Its content and the main teachings include the five Khandha, namely; Rūpakhandha (Material) and Vedanākhandha, Sankhārakhandha, Viññānakhandha (Abstract), gathering called as being, self, person, we, he which is natural to everyone to cling such illusory thought. The contemplation on name and matter, an object of Vipassanas investigation. By virtue of mindful consideration and determination to realize the Three Common Manner, that is, seeing the condition of the five aggregates as impermanent, suffering, soulless, uncontrollable according to factors arisen for a while and then disappeared, seeing the absolute truth that all things in the world follow the Three Common Manner which are natural laws. The wisdom arising from knowing the name and matter leads to the boredom, alleviate desire alleviating, the cessation of suffering, free from defilements, and finally Nibbana attainment, which is the highest goal in life
The Vipassana practice in Attādīpasutta means the observing of all phenomena based on Mhasatipatthanasutta including Four Foundations of Mindfulness, namely, Kāyānupassanāsatipaṭṭhāna. Vedanānupassanā, Cittānupassanā, Dhammānupassanā. Observing all materials is grouped in Kāyānupassanā category, determination of feelings is classified in the category of Vedanānupassanā, perception recognition is classified in Cittānupassanā category, all metal determination is classified under Cittānupassanā and Dhammānupassanā categories. Consciousness designation is classified in Cittānupassanā which is a way to develop insight and to determine mental objects in order to have direct experience in the insight knowledge, knowing the noble path, finally becoming a Noble One.
